While working in the lab, Dr. Pawluk was looking at a blood sample under the microscope from Meische (pronounced "My-chee"), her own dog, when she noticed a heart shaped cell. This cell is a monocyte; a type of white blood cell that fights infection. This particular monocyte happened to have a nucleus shaped like of a heart which is very unusual! Perhaps Meische was telling her Mom how much she lovers her!
